Each night’s accommodation along the Banks Track offers a choice of shared sleeping arrangements from 2 to 6 walkers per room, included in your booking.

The Private Room is an optional extra for 3-Day Classic Walkers who prefer separate sleeping accommodation with one double bed, made up with bedding and towels. Kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared with other walkers.

There are only two private rooms at each accommodation. One private room booking gives you access to a private room at each of the three nights’ accommodations. Please book your private room in addition to your 3-Day Classic Walk booking for the same arrival date.

The Helps family at Flea Bay offers morning kayaking trips through their business Pōhatu Penguins Ltd to 3-Day Classic Walkers at a discounted price.

Kayak within the Pōhatu Marine Reserve, among wildlife including seals and penguins, in the morning before you walk to Stony Bay. Kayaking takes approx. 1.5 hours and you will be ready to set off on your walk by 11 am.

The 3-Day Classic Walk includes transport of one pack per walker, up to 15kg, between each accommodation and to Akaroa on your last day.

If 3-Day Classic Walkers require extra items transported, they must be pre-booked (up to 15kg per bag/item). Maximum size for chilly bins 45cm (L) x 30cm (W) x 40cm (H). Please try to keep pack cartage as easy to handle as possible. Strong soft-sided bags that can be carried with handles are preferred.

We can store your unneeded extra luggage while you walk Banks Track. (limit per bag 15kg).

Please bring bags for storage to the orientation by 5:15 PM and collect them at the end of your walk. This is not a secure facility and is not suitable for items of any value.

You will need a sleeping bag. No bedding is provided unless you book the Private Room in addition to the 3-Day Classic Walk.

Hired Sleeping Bags are washed at Akaroa Laundry between each hire.

Collect your hired Sleeping Bag at the orientation and take it with you to each accommodation.

You will need to bring food for all meals until you get to Stony Bay Cottages, although Flea Bay Cottage and Ōnuku Trampers Hut have milk, drinks, and chocolate bars available. On your last evening at Stony Bay, there is a Walker’s shop. This shop is well stocked and open to walkers throughout their stay. It is restocked daily and provides sufficient choice and quantity to cater to individuals or groups. Expect to pay prices roughly similar to a remote country dairy and don’t forget to bring cash.

As well as a good supply of cold drinks, this shop includes:
Cereals, milk, bread, butter, bacon, eggs, chocolate, biscuits, cheese, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, soup, tinned fish, tinned fruit, tinned tomatoes, noodles, pasta, potatoes, sausages, steaks, mince, and ice cream.
