The four day walk gives you the time to hike the side tracks, watch the birds and wildlife, swim, sunbathe, read, play games, beachcomb ... to explore more or to relax in beautiful surroundings.
The leisurely pace of this walk makes it an option open to all age groups. It is excellent either as a 'first tramp' for the novice walker; or as a first or last tramp for the overseas visitor flying to or from Christchurch airport.
This is our most popular choice on the Banks Peninsula Track, having been enjoyed by over 30,000 trampers since opening in 1989, but with our strict limit of 12 walkers per day, it is never crowded on the track or at your accommodation.
It features shorter daily walking times and overnight stays at the sandy beaches and historic cottages of Flea Bay and Otanerito Beach, in addition to the purpose built lodge at Onuku, and the rustic boutique cabins of Stony Bay. It also includes the penguin tour (spring/early summer) and Pohatu marine reserve kayaking option.
